It seems that every year that passes I have new revelations and start to understand my life and the world around me a tiny bit more. I even write them down, so I don’t forget them. It’s important to remember your life lessons. Not just so you can teach your children someday, but for yourself.
For example, at the end of 2018, I was disappointed that I hadn’t accomplished as much as I would have liked. All I could see was all the mistakes I made throughout the year. It was bothering me until I made a list of all the things I accomplished. Then I had an, as Oprah would say, Aha! moment of 2018. Some mistakes or failures can still lead to something positive.
This moment particularly came in regards to my career. Even with years of experience, working at great companies, I still had no idea what I truly wanted to do. I always dreaded the question, “Where do you see yourself at in 5 years?” Entering into 2018, I was determined to figure it out. I decided to apply to an MBA program. Assuming that once I graduate then I would know what I wanted to do. To apply, I had to take the upper graduate test. After months studying and paying for test guides, I took my exam and did horrible! I really mean it HORRIBLE!
Although I hated myself for wasting time and money on a test, it pushed me to figure out what I truly wanted to learn. Now, I’m excited to enter 2019 with a clearer vision on how I seem my career unfolding. The trick I found to life failures is to not stop, but keep moving. One can’t solve our life puzzle by not doing anything. We need to move the pieces around and try things that might not fit, to hopefully solve the greater picture of our lives.
