I’m not a trend follower kind of gal. I always look for clothes that I can re-use for longer than a season. For some reason, it is easier to shop for winter clothes, since the season style pieces don’t change much. It seems that summer is a different case. Summer style requires more fun-colorful pieces, that are trending for only one or two seasons. When shopping I have a harder time looking for pieces that are practical, yet stylish. These are the solutions I’ve come up with to find the perfect summer style.
Like always stick to basics
There are a few summer basic pieces like a white tee and or classic silhouette summer dress. These pieces never go out of style. This is where you should splurge or purchase 2-3 versions of an inexpensive piece. For example, I have a tendency to stain white tees, so it makes sense to buy two of them from H&M rather than spending them on J-crew. These pieces are also a great base to wear colorful sandals and jewelry.
Find a summer color that looks amazing on you
Not all colors flatter every skin tone. For myself, the best colors are coral, yellow, and red. When shopping for summer tops or dresses try to look for colors that flatter you. Even after the season passes, these are pieces you can still wear and get compliments on. Trust me, when a color works on you it makes you look like a million bucks.
Limit your summer shopping to three pieces
It is not necessary to do massive shopping haul every season. Especially since you’ll probably end up wearing the same 3 pieces over and over again. The best thing to do is find two trendy summer dresses or jumpsuits and one top. That way once you’ve over worn the pieces at the end of summer than you can replace them. Again do not invest in seasonal pieces! If you’re on a budget look at overstock stores and inexpensive trendy stores like Forever 21.
