As a woman, it is part of our natural instinct to want to look put together all the time. One key part of looking flawless is applying makeup on a daily bases. Last year Alicia Keys created a media frenzy when she stopped wearing makeup. Although her reasons were for a social statement, I always wondered what it must feel like not rely on makeup every day.
I have never been someone who packs on makeup daily. I usually use about 6 products. And even with minimal makeup, it still takes time from my mornings. These last few weeks I have been getting up early to go study in the morning. After a few days, I realized I was wasting time putting makeup on rather than just getting out the door. I made a decision to stop wearing makeup for the time being. The first few days, I scared myself every time I looked in the mirror. All I could see was my dark circles and uneven skin. I felt so undone. But after a week my skin started to look fresher and after 2 weeks my skin looked great, that even my boyfriend noticed. No makeup started to make me feel prettier, knowing that wasn’t relying on it to look good. Of course, this is only temporary and I still use makeup for when I have important plans. But wearing no makeup made me love myself more.
I researched the benefits of not wearing makeup and this is what I found (Link):
- Help reduce pimples since your pores aren’t clogged with makeup
- Clearer skin – makeup messes with natural cell renewal process by leaving reside if not clean properly
- Creates less fine lines – with all the touching and pulling of your skin your face will start to show signs of aging
- Skin feels healthier – with reduction of breakouts and less maintenance your sill will start to even out and improve your natural glow
