The one thing I have enjoyed about getting older is accumulating life lessons, which gives me a new perspective. Some of these ideas aren’t new and innovative, but when you fully understand them they change the way you think. For me I learned one major lesson this year, I have my own unique path in life and I should enjoy it.
There are so many times when I hear of someone’s exciting life story or read biographies of people who have accomplished so much at a young age. It’s hard for me not feel a sense of jealousy or disappointment. Or there are times when I feel like I need to follow the typical life course of what society expects. Some much so that I start putting timelines and deadlines on my life and are disappointed once they aren’t made.
After having a conversation with my boyfriend about our future, I realized I needed to let go of the expected life path of everyone around me. That my life will have it’s own story, which will unfold when it’s time. Even more so my ordinary life is nothing to be ashamed of,but loved just by me.
I heard in a podcast Joan Juliet, the ex editor-in-chief of French Vogue, mention that to herself, her life had seem to be an accumulation of failures and disappointments. But after writing her book she saw her life as her own. I realize there is something beautiful in a normal life. Not everyone needs to be extraordinary, but as long as they enjoy their life, the good and the bad, then their story is worth cherishing.
So enjoy your own life journey.
Happy New Years!
