Our wedding was on September 2, 2017, 11 years to date we first got together ….that’s right ELEVEN years! We already felt married, but this solidifying our commitment. Our wedding was at the Bowers Museum in Orange County, CA. It was an intimate wedding, ensuring that everyone we invited were those who were part of our journey and who we couldn’t imagine not being there. While 100 guest that may not seem intimate, for Mexican standards it was a small wedding!
The day went as perfect, no big tragedies, no bridezilla moments, and no family drama. People say the day goes by quick, but man…I was not thinking that quick! It felt like a dream. I only remembering the feelings and glimpse of certain moments. Honestly thrilled to get my pictures, as I was asking family the next day how did it look.
At first, I only wanted my sisters as my bridesmaids, to keep my bridal party small. But as the planning went on, I knew I wanted my two friends, who are like sisters, by my side. So close we have a group chat, with our siblings and the two of them.
My friend, Janttey, has grown up with my twin and I since preschool. She also the one who introduced me to my husband. And when she found out she was due the same day as my wedding, she even made the effort to still be part of it. If that isn’t love, I don’t what is!! I met my other bridesmaid, Liz, in highschool and lived with for 4 years after college. We still refer to each other as roomies as we look back at those years with fondness. To go beyond by trying to keep in the family, their kids were our ring bearer and flower girl.
The bestman was my brother, which may seem odd to most. But my husband only has one sister and my brother only has sisters, so the two have become like brothers over the 11 years. The other groomsmen were two friends, including Denise’s boyfriend.
One of my favorite moment was the first look with my dad. He cried as soon as he heard me walking up, so by the time he saw me he was in full sobs…such an endearing moment! We had the wedding party walk down the aisle to the same song as my parents got married to, Cavatina, from the movie Deer Hunters. I always knew I wanted that song, and it fit perfectly with the spanish mission style venue.
When I got to the front of the aisle, it was the happiest moment to see him standing, in tears, and having my dad give me away…actually should say parents gave us away. We made the officient ask all three parents, as they all contributed in raising us. Especially his mom, who was a single mom since he was nine years old.
When searching for venues, we wanted somewhere vintage, with character, and affordable. The Bowers Museum was perfect, and pretty at every angle, which made it easy for photos. Also the catering was provided by the Patina restaurant group. Which meant the dinner was excellent…and everyone raved on how good it was….probably the number one thing we heard all night haha!
We made every decision personal to us. Down to the cuff links my husband wore , which my husband’s father wore on his wedding day, to the DJ, who own the bar we partied at in our 20s. We loved every moment of the day.
