I am one of the lucky few who get to travel for work. Most of my travel has been in Asia, specially in Hong Kong and Taipei. Trying to stay healthy while traveling for work or pleasure isn’t an easy task. These are few tips I have discovered that help me stay on track.
Bring a healthy meal or snack for the flight
Start the trip right by packing your own healthy meal or snack. Because airplane food is highly processed and lots of preservatives, you will likely feel bloated and uncomfortable. Since I typically take red-eye flights, I like to pack a night snack and breakfast. I also workout before I leave to get myself in the right mindset.
Pack healthy snacks, especially fiber rich snacks
Since I am unable to meal prep when I’m away, I typically pack snacks for between my meals. Stay away from high sugar and high carbs snacks and instead focus on high protein and fiber snacks. Quest bar, veggie protein powder, and nuts are great on the go snacks.

Workout in the morning
When traveling, you usually don’t know how the day will unfold. Its best to workout in the morning. This way if your day gets to busy, you already got it out of the way. Also working out in the morning will help you burn off some calories from the day before and start up your metabolism.
Drink tons of water
Make sure you keep yourself hydrated while site seeing or even if your stuck in meetings all day. My trick is to purchase the biggest water bottle at the local grocery store. As I am carrying it through out the day, its a constant reminder to keep drinking water and the more I drink the lighter my bag gets. Once it’s finish I refill it.

Try to get as many greens as possible.
It’s nearly impossible to stay on track when traveling, especially in a foreign country. Since I typically have lunch and dinner meetings, I don’t get much choice on what I get to eat. Therefore, I try to consume as many veggies that I can get my hands on. Even in the hotel breakfast buffets, I try to start my morning with a spinach salad or veggie omelet. Another tip is to pack a green powder mix and take it everyday.
Beauty & Fashion Tips:
- Make sure you bring heavy duty moisturizer for your face, hands, and lips for the flight. The circulating reused air on planes can dry out your skin and open up your pores.
- Bring some type of face mask. If the place your traveling happens to be different climate than where you live, your skin will sometimes go into shock. To combat this, bring a face mask to help the skin recover. Especially if the air is extremely polluted.
- Bring only neutrals. Trust me it’s the easiest way to create outfits when everything matches.
- Light thin blouses is one of the easiest most versatile items to bring. A nice blouse can be worn with shorts in the day and with a skirt at night. It can also be used with professional clothes, if your traveling for work.
