When I was growing up Christmas gifts were not big deal in my family. When I was a kid my parents bought my siblings and I toys, but as we got older they preferred practical or thoughtful gifts from the heart. Never buying for the sake of giving. My favorite presents were the ones my parents would buy for the whole family, like a big trampoline, for all of us to enjoy. My parents instilled the thought that Christmas isn’t about how many gifts you get, but the thought behind them. When I do buy gifts for people I try to make it as meaningful as possible. Here is are thoughtful gift guide to give to your loved ones.
Family Necklace – Many of my friends are now starting a family of their own, so this is perfect for any mothers. She can wear this around her neck with all the names or date of births of her family inscribed.
Personalized Wine – If you don’t want to risk giving a throw away gift than try giving a personalized wine bottle. This way someone can drink it for a special occasion or even during Christmas dinner.
Candle From Their Home State – For those who can’t be home for the holidays why not give a gift that reminds them of home. The candles from Homesick Candle Company are inspired by scents of a different states. For example, California SoCal has the scent of Ocean Breeze.
Custom Photo Book – This is a gift I have gave a friend for her child’s first year of and she loved it! Most of us carry photos on our phone but never print them out. Give a photo book filled with photos of their family or their last vacation or even their past year. You can just grab the photos from social media account or asked a family for photos to use.
Monogram Their Gifts – If you are going buy a gift from a store then why not customize it for that little extra touch. J-crew has items, like purses or even blouse that you can order to monogram them for an extra $10. That way it looks like you put more time and effort into their gift.
A birthstone ring – This may be biased, but I love getting jewelry as gifts. That way every time I wear them I remember how much that person means to me. Make it even more special by including a their birthstone or someone they love or even past relative.
Donate to Charity – Buying gifts are even more special for those who are in need. Pledging to donate to charity for a cause close to their heart. This way more than one person benefits from your gift. Or do what my family does and rather than exchange gifts, pull your money together and donate to a family in need. Who needs more crap anyways!
Happy Holidays!
