So if you read the last roadtrip blog post, I got engaged!! I wanted to do a new segment on wedding preparations and staying healthy both body and mind through this exciting, yet daunting, time.
First thing I did was to create three different list. These list will help you quickly navigate the start of the wedding planning. Also, will keep you from stressing later in the planning process.
1. Preliminary Guest List- You’ll be surprised on how many people get excited that your big day is finally here. It’s so easy to slip and invite someone that later may not make the cut. If not you, your parents will. Best to set the list early to avoid awkward situations later. Also, this is needed when looking at venues.
2. Preliminary Budget- One thing I soon realized once the wedding planning began, there is your “pinterest” wedding and then there is your “real” wedding. Taking a grip on reality is better then paying for the wedding for next coming years.
Start your preliminary budget by figuring how much you both can save each month. Times that number by how many months till you plan to have your wedding. Then if your parents are helping, ask how much they willing to contribute and added that on. That is your budget. Next start categorizing money based on what’s important for you. For us, its the venue and music.
This budget helps with two things. One the approximation of the date or month of the wedding based on how much you want to save. And two, the venue your capable of hosting at.
3. The Wedding Theme and Tone- Start narrowing how you visualize the wedding to be. Not just the colors, but the feeling and look of the wedding. Do you want rustic, romantic, vintage, or fun and whimsical. This will help filter the venue selections.
