If your looking for a book to motivate you, check out the these influential female biographies of women who not only conqueror their goals, but really made strides for all women.
Business
#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
What was inspiring about Sophia Amoruso is that she didn’t have the obvious path to success. She didn’t work her way up the corporate ladder. In contrary, she was practically homeless and was able to turn a hobby into a massive business. She also gives great job advance and tips on how to be successful.
Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg
Sandberg is the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook and is known to be a shinning example that women can succeed in a male dominated business world. The book is full of compelling research, personal stores and motivation tips to over come personal hurdles in your career. My favorite part of the book is personal antidotes that make Sandberg more relatable. Even a woman of that stature struggles with her confidence every once in a while.
Cultural
I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
I feel like most people have read this book, but if you haven’t it is a must read! It made me realize how ignorant I was about the Middle East. Especially, how we, in a first world country, take our freedom of education so lightly. I love how she isn’t afraid to speak up about women’s rights no matter the cost.
My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor
For those who might not know, Sonia Sotomayor is the first Latina Supreme Court Justices. Her story is inspiring of how she dealt with difficult times in her life and overcame them to earn one of the most influential jobs in US Government. More than anything, I love how she embraces her Latin culture and believes it is what gives her the strength.
Entertainment
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me by Mindy Kaling
What I love about Mindy Kaling, she is afraid to showing her flaws. She climbed her way up by not pursuing the acting route, but by doing what she loved, writing comedy. Her story gives you great insight on how there is no right way.
Bossy Pants by Tina Fey
Tina Fey incredible ability to balance humor and story telling is perfect. The book is filled with witty antidotes about her awkward childhood upbringing to becoming a creator/producer of 30Rock. And while it is interesting to get a behind the curtain look of Hollywood, it is even better to hear a women experiencing in becoming stronger and more authoritative like their male counterparts. Her unapologetic view in life, and the business, is a great read.
